After almost 40 years of women’s and gender history, well-known historians from Germany and the United States examine in how far “gender” as an object of and category for analysis has infiltrated historical scholarship. On the basis of key themes in recent German history, the authors illuminate the impact as well as the limits of historical women’s and gender research. The volume demonstrates that the systematic inclusion of the category “gender” has led to extensive new interpretations in the writing of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Germany history.References
