Abstract

In the center of the review, are fundamental questions (emerging from the articles of the anthology) of a gender theoretical understanding of the relationship between emotions and gender, with a general focus on masculinities. Are emotions inherently gendered, as Ute Frevert supposes? Or is Andreas Reckwitz’s assumption valid that the emotions of a modern and post-modern subject are not always gendered, and that consequently, gender would be a mere subsequent phenomenon? In the context of these controversial gender theoretical questions, the research premises, outlined by the editors of the anthology, are also examined and illustrated further.
