The Matrix films achieved cult status within just a short period of time. Patricia Feise-Mahnkopp examines this phenomenon from the perspective of aesthetic theory and asks for the reasons for the film trilogy’s extraordinary success. However, the derivation and argumentation of her thesis, stating that this would be related to the religio-aesthetic quality (i.e. the property of evoking both the sublime and the holy) shows several gaps, leaving her analysis unable to convince fully.Downloads
