Empirical studies on migration and sex work seldom offer female sex workers themselves the chance to speak. However, Maritza Le Breton’s dissertation succeeds in achieving exactly this; she makes room for otherwise (epistemologically) marginalized protagonists. It is her goal to look at and flesh out their actual experiences (of violence) as well as their life and work situation in order to thus make this important addressee’s knowledge accessible for social work. Based on twenty-one problem-centered interviews with migrated female sex workers, who work in contact bars and salons in Basel/Switzerland, she portrays relationships of violence and constellations of power in sex economics as well as the sex workers’ courses of action.Downloads
