Beate Hoeckers book is an attempt to create a survey of gender politics on a European scale. Her criterion for evaluating the status quo is the demand of women’s organizations for equal participation in political decision making processes. From this perspective, she not only focuses on the unequal representation of women and men in institutions of the European Union (EU), but also points out to differential hiring patterns and participation in proceedings of representative democracy. Severe deficiencies in study design and methodology, however, raise doubts towards her findings and conclusions.Downloads
