Marion Kamphans presents a theoretically focused and methodologically elaborated study that offers an important interim conclusion on the implementation of gender mainstreaming in academia and science. The empirical study is based on the analysis of 26 interviews with central gender mainstreaming agents from various universities that are evaluated using the habitus-field-concept, a neo-institutionalist approach, as well as perspectives from women’s and gender studies. The study thus contributes to expanding the individualizing understanding of the observable resistance against gender mainstreaming by habitual and organizational cultural aspects.
