Lena Gunnarsson’s study convincingly theorizes the causes and appearances of the continuing tendency of a submission of women to men in realms of love and sexuality in Western societies. Based on a critique of Judith Butler’s queer theory and a positive reference to Anna Jónasdóttir’s theory on the exploitation of female love, the author analyzes inequality-stabilizing mechanisms in heterosexual partner relationships as well as their inherent contradictions. Based on metatheoretical considerations the author extrapolates the fundamental male interest in resolving these contradictions and formulates a two-layered strategy of female emancipation.Downloads
