Abstract

Against the backdrop of the 2007 amendment to the Parental Allowance Act, the present study examines the changes in intra-familial negotiations as to the division of labor in the phase of starting a family. To this end, double-income and dual-career couples were questioned in the research style of Grounded Theory, including both individual and couple interviews. Diverse patterns of justification regarding parental leave are presented. One main conclusion of the study is that the underlying negotiations within couples need to be taken into account more fully.
