The present study examines the dynamics of couples in which women are the main breadwinners, covering a variety of sociological environments. Its empirical basis are guided interviews with 29 heterosexual couples (both couple and individual interviews). The authors distinguish three types of environments: individualized, familistic and traditional. Their study shows that despite a tendency towards gender equality it is not within the individualized environment that gender attribution is starting to ease up, but within the rather social-conservative familistic environment.
