In her doctoral thesis Anja Gregor reveals how forced medical interventions influence biography, body and gender identity, by presenting five narrative interviews with intersexual people. Thus, she connects three core areas of sociology: biography, body and sex/gender. Her main point of interest lies in the (re-)construction of biographical narratives and in discussing medicine as a powerful institution in discourse. Subsequently, Gregor develops a four-level model of processes of emancipation, comprising the stages of Coming In, Coming Out, Coming off and Coming Clean.
