This anthology, part of a major project on occasion of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, comprises twelve contributions organised in three thematic categories. They deal with the research question as to whether the Reformation offered women new opportunities of action and thus, new capacities of action. The contributions are discussed in light of this research perspective. The programmatic essay of Ute Gause deserves a special mention as she interlinks the historiography of the Reformation with Gender Studies, and demands a new conceptualization of the Protestant Church's and the Reformation's historiography that would include gender research.
