Abstract

With a feminist and intersectional perspective, Winifred Curran explores the phenomenon of gentrification and shows that the causes and consequences of gentrification processes are highly gendered and that gentrification reproduces and reinforces existing inequalities. The author pays special attention to reproductive work, which in the gentrified city is not only more isolated, but also laborious and precarious. The book benefits from Curran's many years of activism and empirical study of the subject. Thanks to its introductory character, the manifold empirical examples and the relevance of the topic, beginners will also find this accessible.
