Abstract

The thirteen essays featured in this anthology deal with women’s history in the Arabic world, particularly Andalusia and classical Maghreb. The authors examine numerous primary sources for their ideas about women’s spaces (as well as their limits). Occasionally the different kinds of texts under investigation turn out to be full of surprises While the results may seem meagre at first, the anthology nonetheless represents a first step in an important direction.
