Abstract

Few female protagonists of Mexican history are as well suited for a combination of current post-structuralist, feminist as well as post-colonialist questions as the historical and mythical persona of La Malinche, Malintzin, or Dona Marina, who became known as Cortez’s compagnion between 1519 and 1526. Using La Malinche as a site of examination, this anthology introduces the varied and contradictory debates around national and gender identities in Central and Latin American to a German-speaking audience.
