This book presents results from “Girls and Violence: A Survey of Youth Gangs and their Attitudes” a research project undertaken between 1998 and 2001 at the German Youth Institute (DJI). In their introduction, the two sociologists claim that they challenge commonly held views about juveniles which often fail to take gender differences sufficiently into account. In concentrating less on an account of reality than on youngsters’ own perspectives on reality, the study succeeds in being true to life and also manages to suggest practical and workable strategies for preventive social work.Downloads
