The anthology deals with violence against and violence used by women focusing on the cultural perspective. The contributions offer in particular insights into the intersections between discoursive representations of gender and violence, its everyday phenomena, and juridical interpretations. They concentrate on personal violence as a physical instrument of compulsion, dominance, and power. The volume is the result of the conference ‘women and violence’ which took place in October 2001 in Greifswald. Its 18 articles analyse various topics of violence against women concerning the issues incest, rape, torture or pillorying and of violent women regarding the issues crime, murder, infanticide and physical violence.Downloads
