Abstract

Contemporary Hollywood Cinema organises its narrative patterns and visual representations along an axis that is determined by gender. Liebrand’s readings of six films investigate conceptual displacements and faults which arise when tensions built up by gender difference discharge, sometimes with unexpected results, under the extra pressure of conflicting constructs such as race or sexuality.
