Abstract

This book depicts the numerous conditions surrounding the readiness of young people to use violence. Using as a theoretical model the cognitive processing of social information, the authors carried out two associated studies using different approaches: one with 1163 young people aged 12 to 14, and the second, two years later, with various groups of identified problem pupils chosen from the first group (for example, pupils who were bullied, aggressive, inconspicuous, or socially competent). The result is a complex model of structural conditions relating to different types of problem behaviour, particularly with respect to young boys. The authors discuss diverse measures of prevention and intervention.
