In the last years and decades, numerous disciplines have concerned themselves with the institution of marriage; although the diverse forms life takes have multiplied, it seems the meaning of marriage has in no way lost its traditional attributions. The interdisciplinary approach from the fields of ethnology and history particularly clarify the historical meaning of marriage—this important aspect prompted the magazine L’Homme to focus one volume on the theme of marriage from a historical perspective. Marriage is thematized in historical studies as part of the structure of kinship, family history, legal history, historical demography, and women’s and gender studies.Downloads
