In her book Die Fortpflanzung der Geschlechterverhältnisse (The Propagation of Gender Relations), Smilla Ebeling traces the metaphoric field of parthenogenesis ("virgin birth”) in evolution biology. Through the analysis of biology and popular scientific texts, she points out that dual-gendered stereotypes are also found where they are thematically not expected: in texts that devote themselves to the propagation of a purely female species.Downloads
