The contributions’ thematic alternation between art history and literary scholarship forms the only obvious structure of this anthology, which is a publication of the results of a conference from the year 2000. Behind the unspectacular title there is no persuasive concept. Although each contribution is very interesting when taken alone, the volume is lacking unifying categories that go beyond “woman” and the “early modern.”Downloads
