The relationship between the sexes does not play a central role in Pierre Bourdieu’s overall work. Nevertheless, he is one of the few sociologists who has had an eye for gender differences. This has been the case since the beginning of his research activities in the 1960s. However, it was not until the 1990s that he began to systematically analyze the subject by making his conviction that male domination is the foundation of our society the starting point for the study at hand. Bourdieu’s intention is to fight against the mystification of the relations of domination because there would be nothing worse—as he himself writes—than to perpetuate these.Downloads
