Abstract

Robert Gugutzer offers an overview of theories, themes, and questions about the body in his introduction to the sociology of the body. Here, the multiple ways of approaching the topic are highlighted. At the same time, Gugutzer suggests an answer to the question, “what is the body,” in which a differentiation between the body and the flesh plays a central role.
