The volume at hand examines the topic of “Jewish women in the National Socialist camp system” with the help of differing theoretical points of departure. It contains, for example, contributions on the early phase of the concentration camp Moringen (Jane Caplan), on Jewish women in Ravensbrück (Linde Apel, Hanna Herzog, and Adi Efrat), in Auschwitz (Na’ama Shik), and in Theresienstadt (Anna Hájková). Additionally, the contributions attend to the experiences of the survivors in the post war period (Christa Schikorra and Sabine Kittel). Editor Gisela Bock manages to present with this volume a survey of the meaning of the category gender for life and survival in the concentration camps. In addition, the collection presents different methodological avenues of approach to the source material.Downloads
