Scholz Löhnig uses the history of Bavarian legislation to analyze the path toward secularization of Bavarian marriage laws. She focuses on the time period between the Enlightenment and the time Bismarck’s laws were put into effect during the Kulturkampf, or culture wars, with the Catholic church. The author works through the numerous, often unpublished sources in an impressive manner and makes them accessible to further research for the first time.Downloads
