The editors and authors of this collection offer multiple perspectives on and an interdisciplinary glimpse into the state of research in an important area of historical and literary gender research: Their central question is how important the time around 1800 was for the development of the modern conception of gender relations. Their point of departure is the finding that particularly during this time, the instability of the assignment of gender came to light. The contributions present the different attempts of women to subvert and modify existing gender order around 1800.Downloads
