Katharina Walgenbach’s study aims to transfer the theories and concepts of Anglo-American Whiteness Studies to the historical context of German colonialism and imperialism. To achieve this, she examines the colonial discourses of the Women’s Union of the German Colonial Society with regard to the structural interlacing of the categories of gender, “race,” and class. She concludes that German bourgeois and aristocratic pro-colonial activists construct a white identity on the basis of their privileged position of class, additionally defined by gender specificity.Downloads
