Abstract

The author begins with the question as to whether the sociocultural and analytic category of “gender,” put forth in the last decades by Gender Studies, can be relevant in the context of the Middle Ages. To answer this question, she examines a series of texts that were collected around the time of the Benedictine Reform by the various monastic communities.
