Martin Weidinger analyses the American western film from its beginnings to today. His intention is to sketch the staging of socially formative myths of the “west” in their meaning for American culture. Weidinger pays special attention to the construction of gender. Unfortunately, the study presents nothing new: Far to often the author remains stuck on general stereotypes and the complexity of American society in the twentieth century falls short.Downloads
