This long-overdue, gripping, and very readable volume enriches both the scientific historiography of sociology as well as Women’s and Gender Studies. In 23 autobiographical sketches and a forward and afterward written by the editors, the volume contributes to making the heyday of sociology in German universities from the point of view of leading female scholars come alive. Additionally, the lifework of those professors who contribute to the volume is written into the story. The extent of the variability of the (career and life) paths of these “first generation of professors” thus becomes clear, as does the relationship between Sociology or the Social Sciences and Women’s and Gender Studies.Downloads
