Abstract

Part of the self-conception of gender research is the construction of a differentiated image of history. The interdisciplinary collected volume at hand contributes to this project. It discusses the diverse European discourses on gender in the transition to the modern era. These are noticeably different than the gender dualism propagated since the mid-18th century. Instead, a pluralism of gender discourses can be identified, which can exist alongside one another, be related to one another, or overlap.
