Christiane Coester’s dissertation on Anna d’Este, the daughter of the Duke of Ferrara and the granddaughter of the King Louis the XII of France, is a well-research scholarly biography. Differing sources from Italian and French archives sketch the duties and the extent of freedom of the Italian princess in the French royal court. The author creates an enlightening and layered image of a 16th century female aristocrat.Downloads
