Abstract

In her dissertation, Anke Berger examines the category of gender in historiography, which until now has been noticeably neglected. She accesses the question of its role in the interplay between politics and science through a biographical approach. The author uses case studies to point to the extent to which historical practice was influenced by gender-segregated and hierarchical forms of the division of labor as well as a specifically male-oriented understanding of “historians”.
