The historian Inge Friedl, born in 1959, encouraged people to talk about their childhood and this book collects her reports from a total of ten different families from Salzburg, Upper Austria, and Styria. The men and women interviewed were born between 1909 and 1948, lived as farmers or simple tradespeople in poor conditions in the countryside, and in their stories they vacillate between nostalgia and a sobering look back at a hard life.Downloads
