The central theme of the collected volume at hand is the persistence of traditional and stereotypical gender roles in archaeological life portraits. The authors critically approach the representation and reconstruction of past gender relations and environments in scientific, popular scientific, and popular media. The volume contains contributions from the second meeting of the Gender Research Consortium that was held in 2005 under the title “Life Portraits—Phantom Portraits” within the context of the fifth German Archaeology Congress in Frankfurt (Oder).Downloads
