The study at hand delivers a new Austrian contribution to the explanation of the gender differences behind education choices, despite its statistical orientation and the resulting linguistic unwieldiness. The study concentrates on the transition between levels of education. It also disproves widely accepted prejudices, for example in that it proves that children raised by single mothers do not display any education-related disadvantages. The study shows that in pursuing the question of educational inequality, gender only plays a secondary role to social background.Downloads
