The study at hand sophisticatedly examines the complex practices of gender constructions within school culture and provides motive to rethink many practices of gender-sensitive pedagogy. The manifold ways of doing gender at an Austrian high school are ethnographically examined. On the one hand, the study questions which processes of construction can be found and, on the other hand, in how far these processes highlight the theme of gender or instead relegate gender to the background. The authors conclude that the dramatization of gender, contrary to all intentions, strengthens dichotomization and helps to solidify differences.Downloads
