Abstract

The participation of women in the injustice of National Socialism has been an important topic for women’s and gender research ever since Christina Thürmer-Rohr introduced the debate on the term “complicity” into feminist discourse in the mid-1980s. But while female perpetrators originally were seen as marginal and exceptional cases, aberrations from the “norm,” since then an increasingly differentiated exploration of the lives of non-persecuted German women during National Socialism has developed based in gender theory. Building on this, the individual studies in the volume examine the different areas of life of women in National Socialism and analyze the reactions to the (complicit) female perpetrators during the postwar period.
