In extremely well researched essays and photos, the authors of Seeking Traces (Spurensuche) are able to approach the literary work as well as the political and private life of Johanna Loewenherz in very different ways. The authors utilize the life of the woman’s rights activist as a mirror in order to illuminate glaring discrepancies in German history. But Johanna Loewenherz was also an advocate for human rights and dedicated herself to promoting tolerance and cultural openness. In so doing, she led the way for a new, democratic Germany.Downloads
