The volume collects different disciplinary perspectives on the performative production of gender in the areas of music, theater, and media culture. The point of departure and nexus of the contributions is Judith Butler’s concept of the performativity of gender, which is discussed in its relevance for women’s and gender research in musicology. Central is the reflection on the musical performance as a performative act for the construction of gender identities. Over and beyond the perspective of musicology, the different studies provide stimulating and broad-reaching impulses for the consideration of artistic forms of expression in the process of the sociocultural construction of gender and sexuality.Downloads
