The collected volume investigates diverse performances of cosmetic surgery and other bodily operations as cultural avenues of approach to the creation of subject identity. The study examines the ambivalence of such manipulations as they oscillate between self-empowerment and self-subjugation from a gender-theoretical perspective. The redundant references to Foucauldian perspectives can be easily ignored due to the interdisciplinary multiplicity of sources.Downloads
