Corporeality and gender roles are those themes that are most controversial in public discourse on religion, especially in the three monotheistic religions. The collected volume introduced here shows how the female body plays an extensive role in the discussion over questions of power and office, “purity” and “impurity,” but also on the image of God and talking about God. The authors each practice Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and express their individual perspectives on the themes mentioned. They each also respond to the other perspectives. The result is a surprisingly multilayered image. The book represents a very interesting contribution to the current debate on religion, gender, and society.Downloads
