The promising first volume of this new yearbook concerns itself with music that plays a role in representative contexts. Even if in their introduction the editors themselves do not seem to be in agreement as to how they wish their understanding of the term “representation” to be seen, the volume still – or perhaps because of this “terminological openness” – provides an impressive spectrum of articles that thematize a wide variety of events from 500 years of music history.
