After the member states of the European Union began to use gender mainstreaming to implement the guidelines of the 1999 Amsterdam Treaty, which demands the equality of man and woman, public building authorities were prompted to subject their planning and building projects to this policy. This collected volume documents and presents examples from various sectors of public engineering in four European countries and the methods of gender mainstreaming in the practice of architecture planning and city building. The result is a catalogue of criteria and suggestions for future projects. The volume offers an illuminating view into current procedures for this top-down strategy for public construction.Downloads
