In her study Imke Schmincke approaches the marginalization of bodies in public space using the example of the Hansa Square in Hamburg’s St. Georg quarter. The question as to the materialization of processes of marginalization and normalization of the human body stands at the forefront of the examination. With the help of analytical categories such as safety and control, Schmincke examines how marginalization is affixed to public space. In so doing, she pursues the question as to why some bodies and spaces are experienced as dangerous and interrogates how marginalization emerges from a normalizing perception of specific bodies and spaces.Downloads
