This special edition offers a sophisticated image of the living conditions of farmwomen and addresses the gender arrangement in agricultural businesses in various European countries. The schematic structure of all contributions including comments on the research method and data collection, conclusions, and sometimes specific recommendations is valuable. However, there is no thematic allocation and systematization of the articles and although the individual contributions offer valuable information, the edition lacks comprehensive theoretical and methodological connections. Furthermore, no connection to the extended discussions of Rural Women’s Studies in countries of the global south is established. Thus, the edition misses the chance to contribute to the scientific discourse or political events.
