Helga Satzinger provides a descriptive examination of the context for the development of genetic and hormonal-based gender theories from the end of the 19th to the middle of the 20th century. She does so by turning to Theodor Boveri, Richard Goldschmidt, and Adolf Butenandt, who were central figures in this research. She addresses not only their (gender) theories, but she also focuses especially on the conditions for the development of their research conclusions and on the number of women in these studies.Downloads
