This insightful study on Christian piety focuses on their self-conception. Men living in rural areas and with a close affiliation to the church were asked about their life stories and their practice of faith; furthermore, their manner of speaking was analyzed. The result should be of equal interest to gender research, church, as well as masculinity studies because the ‘pious men’ tend to be conservative and largely indifferent to the topic of masculinity.Downloads
