Modern criminal law should neutralize informal gender norms. This is by and large successful; however, it can be circumvented in the assessment of penalty. As shown by the historically orientated individual articles of this anthology, criminal law has never been as objectifying as the reforms since the 1970s are aspiring. Using the example of the female infanticide, the anthology proves that the violation of gender virtues can at all times still be sanctioned with severe penalties.
