In this present study, Peter Winzen tries to prove that chancellor von Bülow was behind the Harden-Eulenburg affair. In several articles, the journalist Harden accused several friends and counselors of Wilhelm II. of homosexuality, which led to a number of scandalous processes. Regarding this point, Winzen’s line of argument fails to convince; at the same time, however, he vividly traces the course of the affair and its political causes and effects using a multitude of resources. Thus, the book is a suitable introduction to the topic. However, it will probably not be of major importance for research, particularly gender research.
